Help & FAQ
Answers for local files, cloud imports, Studio Mode, MIDI sounds, Karaoke Mode, Spotify companion mode, privacy, tab capture, image uploads, performance, mobile playback, and browser behavior.
Privacy first: Audio Alchemy FX runs in your browser. It does not upload your local music.
General
Is this safe?
Yes. Audio Alchemy FX runs in your browser. Local music files stay on your device, and captured tab audio is used live for visualization only.
Does Audio Alchemy FX upload my music?
No. Local files are not uploaded to an Audio Alchemy FX server. The app uses browser memory and temporary blob URLs so it can play and visualize tracks during the current session.
Studio Mode
What is Studio Mode?
Studio Mode is the multitrack workspace for loading stem projects, importing local tracks, mixing, recording audio, recording MIDI, editing MIDI notes, using effects, and exporting supported audio or MIDI files.
Does Studio Mode upload my local tracks or recordings?
No. Local stems, recordings, user-loaded samples, and MIDI performances are handled in your browser unless a feature clearly tells you it is uploading or sharing them. Exporting, downloading, copying reports, or sharing projects is user-initiated.
What are shared Studio projects like Dragons fire?
Shared projects are hosted demo or direct-link multistem sessions. Their project files and stems are downloaded or streamed from Audio Alchemy FX hosting so they can play in your browser. They are separate from your private local files.
Can I record in Studio Mode on mobile?
Supported mobile browsers can record when the browser allows microphone access. You may need to approve mic permission first, and mobile recording behavior can vary by device, browser, and permission settings.
Does MP3 export include my Studio mix and MIDI?
MP3 export is intended to render the audible Studio mix, including track levels, supported effects, and MIDI instruments. Because MP3 is lossy and export may use an offline render path, it may not be bit-identical to live playback.
Where are Studio saves and session data stored?
Studio settings, project metadata, MIDI mappings, recorded-take metadata, Session Log history, and other state may be stored in browser storage on your device. You can clear this through your browser's site settings.
Studio, MIDI, and Sound Libraries
Can I use the built-in drum and instrument sounds in songs I export?
Yes. Built-in Audio Alchemy FX sounds are included so you can use them in music, mixes, recordings, and exports you create with the app.
Can I resell or redistribute the built-in sounds as a sample pack?
No, not as a standalone sound library or sample pack unless a specific sound license says that use is allowed. They are provided for making music inside Audio Alchemy FX.
Can I load my own drum samples or sounds?
Yes. Desktop Studio Mode can load session samples for MIDI tracks. You are responsible for having the rights to any samples, loops, MIDI files, or recordings you bring into the app.
Are my loaded samples uploaded?
No. User-loaded samples are handled in your browser session. Audio Alchemy FX does not upload your local samples to its servers unless a feature clearly tells you it is uploading or sharing them.
Does MIDI export create a MIDI file?
MIDI export is intended to export recorded MIDI performance data. MP3 export renders the audible mix, including MIDI instruments, as audio.
Why do MIDI sound options vary by device?
Browser MIDI, audio, and file-access support varies. Desktop browsers generally support more MIDI device and sample-loading workflows than mobile browsers.
File Import
What happens when I import local songs?
The selected files are loaded into the browser session and added to the playlist. They are not copied into your project folder, not uploaded, and not intentionally saved to your Downloads folder.
Why does my playlist disappear on refresh?
The playlist is currently session-based. Refreshing or closing the tab clears the active playlist unless persistence is added later.
Dropbox Import
What Dropbox permissions does Audio Alchemy FX request?
The app requests read-only Dropbox access: file metadata read access so it can list folders/files, and file content read access so it can load the audio files you select.
Can Audio Alchemy FX edit, delete, or upload Dropbox files?
No. The Dropbox integration is read-only. It does not request permission to edit, delete, move, rename, or upload files.
Does Audio Alchemy FX look at all my Dropbox files?
The app lists folder metadata so you can navigate your Dropbox folders, but it only displays folders and supported audio files such as MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG, and WebM. Non-audio files are ignored and cannot be added to the playlist.
Does importing from Dropbox permanently download songs to my device?
No. Selected Dropbox audio files are loaded into the current browser session so they can play in the app. They are not intentionally saved to your Downloads folder or permanently stored by Audio Alchemy FX.
Can I browse subfolders?
Yes. The Dropbox browser lets you open folders and subfolders, filter by name, sort files, and explicitly choose which audio files to add.
Are Dropbox files selected by default?
No. Nothing is selected by default. You choose the specific tracks you want, or use the All button when you actually want everything currently shown.
Karaoke Mode
What is Karaoke Mode?
Karaoke Mode lets you enable your microphone on desktop, blend it with a loaded local or cloud track, shape the vocal with mic-only FX, and optionally record the mixed result as a local download.
How do I turn Karaoke Mode on?
Load a supported track, then use the Mic button in the transport row. Your browser will ask for microphone permission the first time. Once enabled, the Karaoke Controls section appears with Music Level, Mic Level, the vocal meter, FX, recording controls, and recording time.
Why do I not see the Mic button on mobile?
Karaoke Mode is desktop-only for this version. The Mic and Record controls are hidden on mobile and iOS browsers because live browser mic monitoring and recording behavior is not consistent enough there yet.
What does Karaoke FX do?
Karaoke FX processes only your microphone, not the music track. The FX panel includes Body, Mid, and Clarity EQ, a De-esser, vocal compression, and Reverb. The app also applies hidden vocal cleanup before the visible EQ so the vocal starts cleaner while the user-facing EQ remains flat by default.
Why are headphones recommended?
Karaoke Mode is tuned for low-latency mic monitoring. For the fastest response, browser echo cancellation and noise suppression are not used. Headphones help prevent the mic from hearing the speakers and causing echo or feedback.
Can I choose my microphone?
Yes. After microphone permission is granted, available input devices can be selected when the browser exposes them. Some browsers only show full device names after permission is approved.
Can Karaoke Mode record my performance?
Yes. When Karaoke Mode is active, the Record button can record the mixed output of the music track and microphone. Recordings are generated locally and downloaded by your browser.
Are karaoke recordings uploaded or stored by Audio Alchemy FX?
No. Karaoke recordings are created in your browser and downloaded locally. Audio Alchemy FX does not upload, host, or permanently store your recordings.
Does Karaoke Mode work with Spotify or tab capture?
No. Karaoke Mode is for local and cloud-linked tracks loaded into Audio Alchemy FX. It is intentionally disabled for Spotify Remote Control and tab capture in this version.
Spotify Remote Control Companion
What does the Spotify button do?
On desktop, it connects Audio Alchemy FX to Spotify with Spotify OAuth so the app can show current playback details like track, artist, album art, progress, playback status, and Spotify Artwork mode.
Does Audio Alchemy FX import Spotify songs?
No. Spotify Companion Mode does not download, import, copy, or store Spotify music. It reads playback metadata and can send playback commands through Spotify's Web API when Remote Control is enabled.
How does Spotify Remote Control work?
Connect Spotify from the desktop Spotify button. Remote Control is available when connected, which lets Audio Alchemy FX's transport row control Spotify play/pause, next, previous, and 15-second seeking. You can disable Remote Control from the Spotify Session panel and stay connected for metadata and artwork.
Can I still use local files while Spotify is connected?
Yes. Use the Local and Spotify sidebar tabs to switch contexts. If Remote Control is off, the transport row returns to local-file behavior when local audio is active.
Why are Spotify controls not working?
Spotify playback control through the Web API requires an active Spotify playback device and usually requires Spotify Premium. If Spotify returns an unavailable-device or Premium-related error, start playback in Spotify first and try again.
Mobile Playback
Why does iPhone sometimes require me to tap Play after importing?
iOS Safari is strict about autoplay. After Dropbox finishes importing tracks, you may need to tap Play or tap a track so Safari has a fresh user action to start audio.
Tab Capture
Does Capture Tab Audio record the screen?
No. It only captures live audio for visualization. Nothing is recorded or saved by Audio Alchemy FX.
Why do I need to allow screen/tab access?
Browsers require explicit permission to capture tab or system audio. In supported browsers, choose the tab/source and enable audio in the permission dialog.
Technical
What browsers work best?
Chrome and Edge are the best fit for the full desktop experience. Safari works for playback and visuals, but some browser features like tab capture and autoplay are more limited.
Can I record the visuals + audio?
Not yet. Karaoke Mode can record the mixed audio output of a loaded track plus microphone, but visual export/capture is still a separate future feature.
Privacy & Security
Does Audio Alchemy FX collect my Google, Dropbox, OneDrive, or Spotify account data?
No. Connected-service activity happens in your browser. Audio Alchemy FX does not receive your cloud account password, full account contents, or files on its own servers. When you connect a service such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or Spotify, your browser may temporarily use the permissions you approve to show available files, import selected audio, display playback metadata, or send playback controls for that connected feature.
How is Dropbox access stored?
Dropbox access is kept for the current browser session. This keeps v1 simple and avoids long-term token persistence.
What is the Studio Session Log?
The Session Log is a local troubleshooting report for Studio Mode. It can summarize reloads, mobile browser survival, audio engine state, feature counters, project/session state, and recent errors so playback, recording, export, or mobile stability problems can be diagnosed.
Is the Session Log uploaded automatically?
No. Session Log data is kept in browser storage and is not automatically uploaded to Audio Alchemy FX. If you copy, screenshot, or send the report, you are choosing to share that diagnostic text.
Why would support ask for a Session Log?
It helps identify whether a problem was caused by a browser reload, missing permission, unsupported feature, audio engine state, project loading issue, or export failure without needing access to your local audio files.
Content Security Policy
The app uses a Content Security Policy to reduce exposure to unwanted external scripts and improve browser-side security. Spotify Companion Mode allows browser connections to accounts.spotify.com and api.spotify.com, and album artwork may load from Spotify image hosts.
